Background
The LMKR Earthquake Relief Initiative began on the evening of October 8 th 2005 . Within 24 hours the first convoy carrying medical personnel and equipment and supplies for a field hospital headed into the Jhelum Valley . LMKR established, and ran, two field hospitals in the hill stations of Sudungali and Chakaar, at which some 10,000 patients were treated. Many of the most critically injured were evacuated by helicopter from both sites with the help of the Pakistan Army and the UN.
In November 2005 LMKR established a large field hospital in H11 Islamabad, adjacent to the CDA Earthquake Refugee Tent City , to receive patients for post operative care and to provide medical support to earthquake survivors. This 25-bed facility continues to receive an average minimum of 100 patients per day.
